Kaitlin is 21 today!!! Run for your life!!

HAPPY B DAY KATIE!!

Today is the day you turn twenty one!

You've gone pretty far, but it's only begun!

Education, Employment and Friends and Love too???

Oh my, what wonders lie ahead for you.

Be sensible in your venture, known as your life, especially in love, as it cuts like a knife!

Be honest and loving in all that you do,and watch very closely as it comes back to you!!!

What goes around comes around, my Mom and Dad used to say,so remember what you do to others will happen to you one day.

Keep strong in life as it will surely take its toll, and always remember your life long goal.

Put yourself first always, unless you have kiddos of course
.
You are your own best friend.

You're the only one who'll be with yourself until the very end!!!

Be good and true and always do the best you can do,and you'll be please to see what life has in store for you!!!

Iron Horse Bike Race and Narrow Gauge Run

It is that time of year when my fondest memories come creeping back into my thoughts....I am in the mountains and the flowers are all in bloom, the mountains are green and seem to almost be breathing life. As the day wears on it is inevitable, almost like a timer going off and the afternoon showers start. The showers inevitably announce their soon arrival with booming thunder and dark villainous clouds. We all gather and either nap or play cards as rain pelts the roof....ahhhh nothing like the sounds and smells of a mountain rain especially on a tin roof. Soon everyone rouses from the lazy afternoon and everyone starts coming to life again it is time to light the propane lanterns and start the evening meal.....these are just a fragment of the precious memories this time of year congers in my mind. Memorial Day weekend seems to be the cog in the wheel of this time of year. This year we enjoyed ourselves once again in the mountains. Saturday was the Iron Horse Bicycle Classic. Although speculation arose about the weather, it was perfect and the storms started after the ride was finished. Sunday was the 32ND Narrow Gauge Run and not being sure of what my body had left, it went smashing! I felt great and no soreness whatsoever over the entire weekend. Monday we loaded the kids and went for a bike ride in Durango. Jentry in her bike wagon and Denton rode by himself: shy of a few bumps along the way, it went great.....Here are some pictures of the weekend.

I also want to send a shout out and a HAPPY BIRTHDAY wish to the following:
Kathi Smith 5-16
Sara and Anthony Bohannon 5-18
Toni Authers 5-26
Sorry guys, but my efforts at blogging have be paltry to say the least the last couple weeks!

Aunt Mary

AUNT MARY 1904-2009
Not to be too forthright, but Aunt Mary finally got to make her journey home on Monday night. "Death is not to be feared, but a life unlived certainly is"....well, that latter part did not apply to Aunt Mary. She was 105 years old and had seen the sights and sounds of over a century of unimaginable history. I can almost see her as a small child, horse, wagon, and small dirt floor homestead....she did in fact ride a horse to work and school. I found a web page that tells about what life was like in 1904, I will post the link at the bottom of the page. Check it out, it is pretty darn cool. Anyways, adios Aunt Mary we will see you sometime down the road......

Motivational this and that's...these keep me going!

The title is: Keep Going, the Art of Perseverance, by Joseph M. Marshall III
Check out this video of her running 300 miles for orphans!
"Being strong means taking one more step toward the top of the hill, no matter how weary you may be. It means letting the tears flow through the grief. It means to keep looking for the answer, though the darkness of despair is all around you. Being strong means to cling to hope for one more heartbeat, one more sunrise. Each step, no matter how difficult, is one more step closer to the top of the hill. To keep hope alive for one more heartbeat at a time leads to the light of the next sunrise, and the promise of a new day." This quote came off of Lisa Smith-Batchhens blog page...this woman is an inspiration for me, she runs the Badwater ultamarathon and several others....

In the end, it is not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years. - Abraham Lincoln
First of all......HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY to all you mommies out there........I woke at 6am this morning and rode my bike to Durango and then did a mother's day trail run....I am very tired to say the least tonight. I have been sooooo busy the last couple of weeks that I have been unable to find the time nor the energy to blog......so here is a quick catch up. I have been running and road biking A LOT...and the kids are keeping me excessively busy with end of school field trips ect... Denton just wrapped up soccer and is now full time playing baseball and Jentry is OUT OF CONTROL busy. I am currently training for the Iron Horse Bike Race 5/23, Narrow Gauge 10 mile run 5/24, San Diego Marathon 5/30(still debating on this one), and the Xterra Four Corners Triathlon 6/5 (I will only be doing the running portion of this for a team), Steamworks Half Marathon 6/20 and many others throughout the summer and fall. I will post a schedule at some point. My sister in law Kandi has began road biking and she is doing EXCELLENT and I have enjoyed riding with her lately. The kids and I spent the week planting flowers and cleaning up the yard and we are ready for summer......
